Celebrating Team Members Who Go Above & Beyond. Every Day.

As part of our commitment to support the success of our team members and applaud them for their incredible contributions, Extendicare has established a Care Champion program, celebrating team members who go above and beyond to improve care, every day for our residents and clients.

We are excited to announce our inaugural list of national winners, nominated by peers, residents, clients, and families in their communities for going the extra mile for the people they care for. Join us in congratulating them!

Meet our Care Champions:

Jody Zieverink, Activity Coordinator, from Extendicare St. Paul in Alberta, nominated by a family member

“She ALWAYS goes over and beyond the call of duty with a big smile on her face. Amazing lady. She hears your concerns and deals with them immediately, and then then she’ll send me an email with everything that has transpired. I could go on and on!”

Lauren Feist, Continuing Care Aide, from Extendicare Sunset in Saskatchewan, nominated by a family member

“Lauren always puts the resident first, which gives us peace of mind that our mother is being taken care of. She is very efficient in her work while being patient and kind. We know Lauren is going above and beyond for Annie, which is so important to us, especially as we all navigate the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Cathy Nicholson, Screener from Extendicare Port Stanley in Ontario, nominated by a family member

Cathy kept our family well informed during the difficult COVID times when we could not visit, by sending email updates and pictures of my stepfather, Harv. Cathy has really taken Harv under her wing, doing daily exercises with him, encouraging Harv to eat and by talking to him despite his dementia over these past two years. We consider her to be part of our family. The two of them have a special bond that is so lovely to see and comforting to us as a family.”

Tracy Flagler, Activity Aide from Extendicare Lakefield in Ontario, nominated by a fellow team member

She is very creative, has a flare for decorating, creates all kinds of props and resources, is very imaginative, and her work is the key to our home programming and events. She has built many lasting relationships with our residents, families, volunteers and staff here. She truly listens to the residents and understands their needs and abilities when it comes to programming that supports their quality of life.”

Shailini Pascua, Resident Attendant at Esprit’s Riverbend Crossing Memory Care Community in Saskatchewan, nominated by a fellow team member

“The residents are family to her. If it’s a special day for them, she will ensure they look and feel their best. If it’s a down day for them she knows just what to do to cheer them up. There is never a dull day when she is around. For example, she has made her mission to connect with our residents who have dementia and Alzheimer’s and does crafts with them to help connect with them on another level. It’s my honor to have her as a team member and I am thankful to have met her, as she inspires me.”
