Congratulations to our latest round of Care Champions – who were recognized for going above and beyond in our long-term care homes. Our nationwide Care Champion program celebrates the hard work, dedication, and passion of our wonderful teams in long-term care who help improve care every day.
Rowena, a Health Care Aide at Extendicare Hillcrest in Alberta stands out for her kindness and thoughtfulness. Her nominator, a family member, said:
“My mom used to call me every night to say goodnight but now can’t due to her declining mental and physical abilities. There are evenings when Rowena works that she phones me and hands the phone to my mom for our good nights. I want to recognize Rowena for being such a kind, caring, positive employee of Extendicare.”
Rob, a Maintenance Assistant at Extendicare Oakview Place in Manitoba was nominated by a peer for his positive attitude and dedication to keeping the home in excellent condition for both residents and team members.
“Rob has stepped up and taken on all repair and maintenance requests for the facility’s 245 beds. He is organized, positive, and supportive of the entire department, and the staff acknowledges his efforts during this tough time. Despite being alone, he completes all requests and deserves recognition for his hard work and commitment.”
Sheldon, a Dietary Aide at Extendicare West End Villa in Ontario has worked at the home for 27 years. His peer nominated him for switching from dietary aide to DJ during his lunch breaks!
“Sheldon is very dedicated and devotes his lunch breaks to play music over our intercom for all to enjoy. His program is called ‘WEV radio station where you never know what you’re going to get’, he does this with much joy.”
