This summer, following our decades-long history of investing in education for our teams, we’re excited to launch a new, annual Nursing Scholarship Program for Extendicare and ParaMed team members as they work to develop their skills and build future nursing careers within our teams. We hope to award up to 25 team members who are currently enrolled in or accepted into a post-secondary Practical Nursing Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Recipients will be reimbursed for tuition and school-related fees and will also be eligible to receive paid exam time and other support to enable their success. We can’t wait to see what these bright learners do next in their careers to help the people in their care live better.
Our commitment to investing in educational supports for our team members and their families first began 30 years ago, with the establishment of our inaugural scholarship, in the name of Extendicare’s founder, Harold Livergant – a passionate health care visionary.
Since then, every year, we have continued to offer two existing scholarship programs to support tuition and school-related fees for children of our staff members who are pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. Last year, we awarded a total of 18 scholarships through our Harold Livergant scholarship for healthcare students, and Richard Bertrand scholarship programs for those pursuing other disciplines to help advance healthcare careers for recipients and provide financial support to team members’ children pursuing other post-secondary programs.
Canada’s health care workforce needs eager and well-supported frontline teams to build a strong future for the dedicated professionals who give so much to the growing number of residents and patients who rely on them.
We will continue to invest in our team members and their families, and grow stronger together, now and in the years ahead.
