Meet our Care Champions

Jana Hoeschen, Leisure and Lifestyle Dept, from Extendicare Oakview Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba, nominated by a family member.

“As I spent time through phone visits and FaceTime reading books to mom about the adventures of MacIver the cat, Jana engaged in the books and we found a common ground and a starting place for great conversations with all three of us. This made this time feel like “FAMILY” time and I know it meant a lot to me and mom especially to have this connection and warmth with Jana that mom was missing as her daughter (me) was unable to enter and visit.”

Luisa Bourgoin, Receptionist, from Extendicare Mapleview, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, nominated by a family member.

“When we have questions and don’t know who to call, we call Luisa. When paperwork needs attending to and we are not sure how to deal with it, we call Luisa. When the weather is freezing outside we feel a little better knowing Luisa won’t let Gary out the doors without doing up his coat. When Gary falls asleep outside in his wheel chair in the sun she moves him to a shadier spot. We really believe that this is not just a job or a pay check to Luisa. She really loves and cares for these residents.”

Vijin Wilson, Screener, from Extendicare Van Daele, Ontario, nominated by a peer.

“Vijin has worked countless hours for us, keeping our residents, staff and families safe. He goes above and beyond covering off co-workers in other areas whenever required. He has been our trustworthy first line of defense to protect our Home.”

Abigail Ali, Resident Attendant, from Lynde Creek Manor by Esprit Lifestyle Communities, Whitby, Ontario, nominated by a peer.

“Abigail is very accommodating and always willing to work or help out. I have had many residents comment on how lovely and patient she is. Abigail shows a sincere interest in all our residents. Compassionate, reliable, and empathic are just a few words to describe her.”

Anilina Martin, Nurse Clerk from Extendicare St. Paul, Alberta, nominated by a peer.

“Anilina “Annie” always appears to be happy and willing to do much more than her job description outlines. Her generosity of spirit and kind nature is key to maintaining the home’s morale, and quality of life for residents.”
